Jimi Hendrix is having some of his greatest commercial success in years. The new posthumous release, VALLEYS OF NEPTUNE, authorized by the Hendrix family is becoming one of the biggest commercial successes by the artist who died in 1971, since his death.
The new album itself is quite satisfying, with rare and unreleased versions of "Stone Free", "Fire", "Redhouse", "Sunshine Of My Love", "Hear My Train A Comin"' and more. The sound quality is amazingly crisp and clear. The recording is nearly as good as any new album released today recorded on the latest digital recording equipment. If anything , the album presents a great showcase for the guitar legend, well proving why Hendrix was one of the greatest rock performers of all time.
Some companies such as CD Universe chart the new Hendrix album among their top three best sellers right now. And many other retailers place the new album among their top 20 or 30 best sellers right now. Some tracks seem very suitable for FM airplay here, far beyond just fringe appeal to Hendrix fans. In fact, the album has already spurred two new singles, "Valleys Of Neptune" and "Bleeding Heart" although neither single has made the top 40 charts.
It must be pretty satisfying to the family of Jimi Hendrix to see such a huge success for a new release by artist. It proves that 39 years after his death that he still remains a tremendous influence on rock music. One music critic even hailed the album as one of the best of 2010.
Interestingly, Target stores are selling a special edition version of the album with two bonus tracks, "Instrumental" and "Trash Man", both nonvocal instrumental numbers.
