Domino's Pizza Sales Grow With New Recipe Pizza


Domino's Pizzas bold experiment to change their 50 year old pizza recipe has proven results for the company. Sales are 14.3% in the first quarter. It was a high risk move that has so far paid off.


Domino's made three important changes to their pizzas. One was to add a garlic and buttery flavor to improve the taste of the crust. Another was to add some provolone cheese to the mozzarella cheese. A third change was to add some red pepper to the sauce, to give it a more spicy flavor. So far these changes have resulted in better sales without alienating too many long time customers who liked the old taste.


No doubt Domino's is breathing a sigh of relief here. Not all changes result in better sales. Some years ago, Coke miserably failed with the launch of "New Coke" and was forced to quickly return to the old recipe. A little change in recipe can either result in sales success or miserable failure.


Interestingly, the three dot domino that the company uses represents the original three stores they opened. However, now with thousands of locations, the domino would look pretty solid if every store was represented.


Domino's CEO Patrick Doyle was quoted as saying, "We couldn't be more pleased with the success of our new and inspired pizza".


Looks like the company got it right.
